The current research focus of Dr. Gibson's laboratory is on the fate and transport of pathogens within food systems with a focus on human noroviruses and fresh produce as well as retail food safety.
- Develop novel methods for the recovery and detection of foodborne viruses from a variety of food products.
- Explore the utility of bacteriophages in controlling pathogenic bacteria in both food animal and clinical settings.
- Develop methods to mitigate human norovirus persistence on fomites including novel and economical strategies with application outside of the food industry.
- Increase education and outreach for food handler and consumer awareness of human norovirus with respect to food safety.
